What are your thoughts on it? I am a bit conflicted about it.
To me, it felt a bit like a cash grab. I'm not giving up on it yet but the way it's panning out right now is for every safe haven we get to we have to pay 5 bucks. One of the reasons it feels so short is probably because there are a lot of different roads to go down but that doesn't mean we should barely see any progress per playthrough.
I really enjoyed the second part don't get me wrong but before I could get back into the story it ended. That's just my 2 cents though. I do agree that the ending feels very abrupt, but there's going to be a free update that seems like it'll add a fair bit. It seems like the author was eager to get the basic story out there and decided it was better to release as is and then add on later than to delay the release and keep us all waiting. I figure I'll reserve my judgement until I see what the free update adds. It's never felt like a cash grab to me, but I also got it for $3 and I've replayed it 40 times, so I can certainly see why it'd feel less worthwhile to people who bought at full price and only play through once or twice. I think I've always mentally put it in a category of its own.

It's more of a real RPG than the usual CoG/HG and has its own formula, but if you compare prices and word counts, it's pretty comparable to all the other games. There's going to be a free update?! Out of curiosity could you give me the source? If that is the case then it is indeed a bit more justified depending on what is in the update. I guess I was just a bit sore because there was not much progression in the story for me.Replayability for me is tricky. It's definitely true that there are many ways to play the game and that you can find yourselves in many different situations if you play differently. Sadly I don't like to replay these games too much because if I play more then 2/3 playthroughs I get to choices that I don't want to make. Also as a quick follow-up.
Are there many different routes? Does every playthrough feel much different from the last? (Mostly talking about the second part). Sure, here's the link and it's from the author himself:I thought I saw a post just today where he said more specifically what he was planning to do, but now I can't find it. That topic moves way too fast, but yes!
There's definitely more to come. There are so many small changes that really add up that I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question. Changing your profession obviously makes a difference. Playing as a soldier, hacker, scientist, doctor, bank robber, or teenager can make a pretty huge difference. Those are all the ones that I can think of that have their own special plotlines, but I feel like I'm forgetting one or two. The challenges make a HUGE difference in some cases, particularly delusions or the dependent child. Every time I think I've seen pretty much everything, I see someone talking about some big thing that I've never seen and wtf how do I even find that?! If you decide to follow the thread that I linked, the author occasionally posts things that you can do that no one seems to have figured out and then we all run around trying it out.I definitely understand not wanting to try different choices on most games.
I have my own way I tend to like playing and it's just not fun to me to act certain ways in games, but even just replaying with different professions and challenges can really change ZE:SH. There are time where staying home or going out can introduce you to an entirely new character that otherwise you'd miss out on. Scavenging a different house gets you an entirely new set of content. You don't even have to leave your comfort zone to find shiny new content. It's almost overwhelmingly replayable.I bet you can't tell that I love this game, haha.
